Community Partnerships Council

The Community Partnerships Council advances Buffalo State’s role as a community-engaged anchor institution. Focused on planning, guidance, and implementation of efforts to connect our academic mission with community priorities through collaboration, intentionality, and support. The Council and its workgroups support and advance institutional priorities that support faculty, staff, students, and community members. 

The council combines the efforts of the following previous committees under one umbrella effort.

The council will: 

  • Establish and implement community engagement goals and objectives for deepening and expanding Buffalo State’s commitments as a community-engaged anchor institution.
  • Support the recognition of Buffalo State accomplishments related to anchor/community engagement activities through campus and national awards including Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, regional and national designations, accreditation supports, and other recognition efforts. 
  • Support the advancement of community-engaged teaching and learning, scholarship, and civic engagement as well as institutional culture and infrastructure.
  • Advance assessment and research of community engagement while creating a culture of communication and documentation to further efforts to assess campus and community impacts
  • Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, students, and community partners around anchor and community engagement efforts
  • Gather information from the regional, national and international community on priorities and opportunities for partnership

Faculty/Staff and Curriculum Workgroup

The faculty and staff workgroup focuses on supports for faculty and staff including training, promotion and tenure, recognition and avenues to advance engagement.

  • Workgroup will provide support for
    • Policy updates to support faculty and staff
    • Supporting training and professional development
    • Advance curricular community engaged learning
    • Designation request review
    • Celebration awards review
    • Lead Carnegie re-application strategy and data collection for Section 5 and 6, and contribute to all other sections
    • Engaging full council for input and feedback

Co-curricular and Student Engagement Workgroup

The Student Engagement workgroup advances supports and strategies to engage students in civic activities as participants and leaders. 

  • Workgroup will provide support for
    • Student Civic Leadership Activities
    • Voter Engagement
    • Celebration of Community Engagement awards
    • Integration of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in programming
    • Engage council to advance student engagement
    • Lead Carnegie re-application strategy and data collection for Section 11, 12, 13 and contribute to all other sections  

 

Outreach and Partnerships Workgroup

The Outreach and Institutional Partnerships workgroup will support efforts to expand the quality and sustainability of outreach efforts and institution-wide anchor and community engagement

  • Workgroup will provide support for
    • Understanding and supporting campus outreach efforts and programs which have department or programmatic partnerships 
    • Assemble and disseminate best practices for high quality anchor community engagement efforts
    • Lead Carnegie re-application strategy and data collection for Section 2, 3, 4, and 8.6 and contribute to all other sections
    • Connect and communicate with full council for support

 

Infrastructure, Identity and Culture Workgroup 

The Infrastructure workgroup will support institutional culture and infrastructure tools to support the institution’s community-engaged anchor mission

  • Workgroup will provide support for
    • Supporting institution-wide tracking and data collection, organization, and reporting
    • Encourage Anchor/CE as part of institutional identity and branding
    • Connecting institutional business practices with anchor and community engagement priorities
    • Lead Carnegie re-application strategy and data collection for Section 5, 6, 7, and 8.7 and contribute to all other sections
    • Connect and communicate with full council for support
